While every day provides opportunity to creatively engage conflict, Conflict Resolution Day was initiated in 2005 to increase public awareness about conflict resolution and its many benefits. The Conflict Resolution Center in Richmond is hosting a presentation by John Krauss, Director of the Indiana University Public Policy Institute. Dr. Krauss' speech, in Reid Hospital's Lingle Grand Hall, will be at 8:00 a.m. and is open to the public. An optional breakfast at 7:30 requires reservations by Friday, October 10 through the Conflict Resolution Center (765-973-8511).
Dr. Krauss will address business and governmental leaders as well as the general public on the topic of conflict resolution on Thursday, October 16. Dr. Krauss' appearance is being arranged by the Conflict Resolution Center in conjunction with its observance of Conflict Resolution Day.
Dr. Krauss is an attorney, mediator and former deputy mayor of Indianapolis. His fields of expertise include labor/management disputes, land use, zoning, strategic planning, intergovernmental relations and conflict resolution, and economic development in major multi-faceted projects.
Dr. Krauss is director of the recently-created (May 2008) Indiana University Public Policy Institute, an umbrella organization comprising three IU-related research centers: The Center for Urban Policy and the Environment, The Center for Health Policy and The Center for Criminal Justice Research. The Center for Urban Policy and the Environment, which Krauss also heads, staffed the Kernan-Shepard Commission on Local Government Reform.
Underwriting for this event is being provided by the Wayne County Foundation's Jeannette Rodefeld Memorial Unrestricted Fund, the Scott Community Benefit Fund, and the Stamm Koechlein Family Foundation.
