A pioneer in the field of cognitive science or how psychology, biology, neuroscience, linguistics, philosophy and even physics all contribute fundamentally to the process of human learning, George Lakoff will address the subjects of "Framing and Freedom: Why Understanding Mind and Language Matters for Democracy" at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 18, in Goddard Auditorium of Carpenter Hall on the Earlham
Laura Magnani of the American Friends Service Committee joins us to talk about her work in prison and criminal justice reform. Join us for a good time! Also, Laura is offering a retreat on Mysticism and Activism beginning the evening of September 29, 6-9pm, and all day Sept 30.
"Changing the World/Changing Ourselves: Looking at Mysticism and Activism” is the title of a retreat which will take place Friday, September 29 from 6 to 9 PM and Saturday, September 30 from 9:30 AM until 4 PM at Virginia Cottage. Participants will explore the range of forms that mysticism can take, sharing personal experiences, through presentations, journaling, discussions and worship sharing. After becoming familiar with mystical approaches to spirituality, the group will apply mystical approaches to concrete social issues with particular attention to war and peace issues and to crime and punishment.
There will be a Critical Mass gathering of bicycle riders this Friday night, across the street from Little Sheba's, in Richmond, Indiana. The first ride begins at 7:00 PM.
Richmond Art Museum’s new film screening series, fade-IN (Focusing on Art, Diversity, and Education - Indiana) will showcase a variety of films that fall outside the box of mainstream cinema and were most likely not shown in our area. The series will include independent, foreign, and experimental films, and even a scattering of older studio works that deserve another look. Opening dialogue by local filmmakers and film aficionados along with discussion following the films will offer a unique experience to film lovers. Screenings will be held the last Friday of each month, September through June.

Clear Creek Co-op is a natural foods store and deli located on the campus of Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. The Co-op is owned and operated by people who care about what they eat and what kind of organizations they support.
September 30th is the end of the third quarter of 2006. That means that the Co-op needs to do inventory.
