One of the Largest Holiday Events in Richmond Wayne County Kicks Off Friday Night in Uptown Richmond.

Main Street Richmond Wayne County announces Uptown Richmond’s 1st annual Ice Fest on December 8th and 9th as a part of their holiday program “Signs of Season” a month long celebration in Uptown Richmond.

On display along Main Street from 5th to 10th Street there will be twenty lighted ice sculptures; some of the most original, celebrated holiday “signs” ever sculpted in ice, guaranteed to become a must-experience holiday tradition for families of East Central Indiana.

National Ice Designer, Stephan Koch, from Indiana Ice Studio will be on hand on Friday night at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. and on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. for a live ice carving demonstration along Main Street in Uptown Richmond.

For three years now, the Co-op has held an bazaar which showcases local artistry and crafts, as well as international gifts, holiday cards, calendars and more. Saturday December 9th will be a lively festive day at the Co-op. As usual we will have items from Richmond folks and Earlhamites, fair trade items from SERRV International, gifts from Syracuse Cultural Workers AND new this year will be a selection of PUTUMAYO world music CDs and teeshirts from Zendik Arts, a West Virginia artist collective!

A Mozart 250th Birthday Celebration Concert The Richmond Chorale and Earlham’s Concert Choir and Orchestra along with special guests present this concert in celebration of the music of Mozart. Featured on the program will be the Requiem in a newly realized performance edition along with the famous Symphony No. 40 in G minor. Forrest Tobey, conductor; Wei Cheng, choir director.

According to a Pal-Item story: Hagerstown author to sign books Friday in Richmond - Readmore Etc.at 901 E. Main St. in Richmond will host a book signing from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday with Hagerstown author Angelica Reyna. Reyna recently finished a novel, "Last Ride on the Ferry," that is set in Los Ebanos, Texas. It is based on her life as a migrant worker and American of Mexican descent. The family in the book became migrant workers in the 1940s and encountered "adventure, hardships as well as amusing times." Reyna has lived in Wayne County for 43 years.

The Richmond Art Museum and the f.a.d.e.-IN film screening series present "Donnie Darko" on Friday, Dec. 29 at 7:00 p.m. Nominated for an Independent Spirit Award and the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance in 2001, Donnie Darko is a film about heroism and sacrifice, as well as the horror of everyday life. After narrowly escaping a bizarre accident, a troubled teenager is plagued by visions of a large bunny rabbit that manipulates him to commit a series of crimes. Donnie Darko stars Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain) and features supporting performances by Drew Barrymore, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jena Malone, and Noah Wylie.

The powwow is a three-day event that started Saturday and resumes at 10 a.m. today as they will ring in the New Year on Monday. Pat Thompson, who was one of the event organizers, defined a powwow as a gathering of Native Americans who let the rest of the world see the different aspects of their culture. Where: Townsend Community Center, 855 N. 12 St. Price: Adults - $5, Children under 12 - $3, 6 and under - free

The InConcert series is hosting a fundraising New Year's Even Party at the 4th Floor Blues Club. The event will include bands, food, and a champagne toast. For more information, call 765-966-5654.

The Indiana Energy Conference in Crawfordsville is designed for people to explore our culture's relationship with energy.
