The Division of Humanities and Fine Arts at Indiana University East and Earlham School of Religion is pleased to announce that writer Dan Wakefield, an Indiana native, will be in Richmond on Thursday, March 29th and Friday, March 30th He will offer a series of writing workshops, and give a reading from his work. Friday, March 30th, from 1:30 to 4:00 in Whitewater 132 on the I.U. East campus, Wakefield will screen New York in the Fifties, a film based on his memoir of the same name, and lead a question and answer period following the film. Friday, March 30th at 7 p.m. in Vivian Auditorium on the I.U. East campus, Wakefield will read from his book Returning: A Spiritual Journey. All events are free and open to the public. Start: 7:00 pm

The public is invited to join the Take Back the Night March on Thursday April 5, beginning at 6:30 PM on the "Heart," the center of Earlham College's campus. Take Back the Night is an internationally-held march and vigil with the purpose of unifying women, men, and children in awareness of sexual violence and other forms of violence against women, children and families. It is about taking a stand against violence and making the night safe for everyone. The march will proceed to the Richmond Municipal building, where around 7 PM, various speeches will be given and a vigil will be held. Richmond City Council Candidate Josh Williams will host a Town Meeting Saturday, April 14, to discuss issues affecting the community. Williams is running in the May 8th Democratic primary for an at-large seat on the Richmond Common Council. The Town Meeting will convene at 11:00 a.m on Saturday at Charlie's Coffee Bar and Gallery, 416 North 10th Street, Richmond. Williams, age 29, is a student at Indiana University East. He has twice been presented the "Disabled Student of the Year" award by the Community Council on Disability Awareness (CCDA). He is running "to be voice in our community that may not always be heard." | ||

The 2007 Richmond-Wayne County Chamber of Commerce Spring Clean-up will be happening on Saturday, April 21 (rescheduled from the original date of the 14th due to bad weather). A free breakfast will be served at the Chamber office (33 South 7th Street in Richmond) at 8 AM, and teams will depart at 9 AM with their assignments.
