WCTV’s 20th Anniversary celebration will be held Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the WCTV studio in Hayes Hall on the IU East campus. We will have a brief business meeting, then share recognitions and awards before offering a facilities tour. Refreshments will be served. Also, on Sunday April 6 Channel 20 will be offering a slate of special programming to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Richmond explosion. Girls Inc. of Wayne County sponsors a free public talk as part of its "Got Girls? Giving Back" series. Mother, author and educator Lyn Mikel Brown titled "How adults can help girls be who they are, not what they are sold." The talk is open to the public, and recommended for parents, teachers, mentors, older girls (middle school & up) and adults working with girls.

This free event is held on Weds. April 9 at 7pm in the Loose Lecture Hall of the Landrum Bolling Center on Earlham College in Richmond, IN. A reception with book signing follows.

The Newlin Center for Quaker Thought is sponsoring Melanie Weidner, a Quaker contemplative artist and spiritual director, at the Richmond Art Museum on April 10 as part of a week-long residency. Her project, The Passion of the Earth, is an exciting eco-spirituality project retelling the creation story and an invitation to re-understand the care for our earth through the art of fabric. The story has been created in seven fabric panels which will be on display. The event is free to the public and no tickets are required. The Wayne County Soil & Water Conservation District is holding their Spring Fundraiser to sell Native Wildflowers, Native Grass, and Cedar Bird and Animal Nestboxes.
Plants will be sold in 4-packs starting at $16
Nestbox price varies per item
Orders will be taken through April 15th, after that date please call for availability of items. Combine orders with family and friends for better savings!

Funds from this sale are used to help fund educational programs and service to the community. Planting native plants and promoting native wildlife habitats are beneficial to the environment.

Presenter Professor Pamela Samuelson teaches courses on intellectual property, cyberlaw and information policy. She has written and spoken extensively about the challenges that new information technologies pose for traditional legal regimes, especially for intellectual property law. She is a fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), a contributing editor of Communications of the ACM, and an honorary professor of the University of Amsterdam. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Electronic Frontier Foundation and of the Open Source Application Foundation, as well as a member of the Advisory Board for the Electronic Privacy Information Center.

On April 19th, the 5th Street Coffee and Bagel Shop will sponsor a poetry festival from noon – 3 p.m. at the Innovation Center in downtown. They will read and write poems, including those that are from the distributed notebooks. They will also have a booth for spontaneous writing. The event is a part of the Richmond Community Poetry Effort.

“A Night on the Town”

A group of local high school students (Student Government Association) have taken on a huge project to serve their community. They will be hosting you, the community, for a night of dancing and entertainment. The Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra, a very well known and prestigious group, has been invited to Hagerstown Jr. Sr. High School to play the night away with Jazz, Swing, and Big Band classics. A buffet including pastries and other deserts will be provided.

Mark your calendars for April 26th 2008 at 7:00 pm in the Hagerstown Jr. Sr. High School gymnasium.
