Positive Parenting with a Plan

Three free workshops will be offered Nov. 3 and 4 to help parents and children develop a more healthy and functional family.
Dr. Matthew Johnson will lead the sessions. He is a licensed clinical psychologist in Grants Pass, Ore., and is the author of "Positive Parenting with a Plan: FAMILY Rules" and is the president and founder of FAMILY RULES Inc.
His goal is to teach behavior modification systems for families.
The three events include:
# "Positive Parenting with a Plan: Helping to Empower Parents with FAMILY Rules," 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 3 in Vivian Auditorium at Indiana University East -- The seminar is geared to parents will help them learn to deal with children who are a challenge to raise, particularly those with learning or behavior disorders.
# "Positive Parenting ... Program for Parents," 6-8 p.m. Nov. 3 at Civic Hall Performing Arts Center at Richmond High School -- A session for parents who feel like they are flying by the seat of their parents. Among the topics offered will be roles of parenting, cardinal sins of parenting and tactics used by children to manipulate authority. There will be activities available for children ages 3 and older.
# "Interactive Program for Children," 10 a.m.-noon Nov. 4 at the Jeffers Boys & Girls Club of Wayne County, 1717 S. L St. -- There will be a workshop for children and parents with the goal of explaining to children their role in helping the family implement the program.
All the workshops are free. Registration is required by Oct. 30.
The workshops are sponsored by Dunn Mental Health Center, Wernle Children's Home, Richmond Community Schools, Communities in Schools, Birth to Fire, Townsend Community Center, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Wayne County and the Indiana University East School of Social Work.
