"Changing the World/Changing Ourselves: Looking at Mysticism and Activism” is the title of a retreat which will take place Friday, September 29 from 6 to 9 PM and Saturday, September 30 from 9:30 AM until 4 PM at Virginia Cottage. Participants will explore the range of forms that mysticism can take, sharing personal experiences, through presentations, journaling, discussions and worship sharing. After becoming familiar with mystical approaches to spirituality, the group will apply mystical approaches to concrete social issues with particular attention to war and peace issues and to crime and punishment. The retreat will be led by Laura Magnani, a Quaker, who is Assistant Regional Director for Economic and Criminal Justice for the American Friends Service Committee, Pacific Mountain Region. Her visit to Earlham is sponsored by Plowshares. Participants must commit to attend both days of the retreat. The retreat begins with dinner on Friday and Continental breakfast and lunch on Saturday will also be provided. Those planning to attend should RSVP to Jana Schroeder (schroja, Ext. 1276) by Wednesday, September 27.
