In today's Palladium-Item, several residents write in about the looming issue of Confined Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs): Tom Temple of Centerville wants to make sure we debunk myths about how bad CAFOs are, and that they're just an aspect of agriculture most don't understand. Alyson Bodai with the Factory Farming Campaign of the Humane Society of the United States writes in to note that we have a number of reasons to oppose CAFOs in our community. And Bill Geier from Richmond says "let them be the animals they are, and don't confine them in CAFOs. It is cruel, and results in an inferior product."
What do you think?

Follow up: discussion with legislators
According to this Pal-Item Story, "Two state legislators and about 35 citizens discussed confined animal feeding operations, health care costs, privatization and a local option income tax at a Meet the Public session.
The group met Friday at the Richmond Community Schools Administration Building with State Rep. Phil Pflum (Dist. 56) and State Sen. Allen Paul (Dist. 27). The legislators made opening statements and fielded questions."
The actual mention of CAFO discussion was limited:
"During discussion Friday, Pflum said he favored allowing confined-feeding operations if local officials regulate where they are placed.
Paul said he favored a three-year moratorium on CAFOs as the state studies the issue."
