Local development efforts inspire optimism
Aug 22nd
The Palladium-Item finds itself optimistic about some of the local development efforts in Richmond that the paper features in today’s edition:
Area residents should feel heartened there is so much apparent interest in local investment and development. With an economy so very fragile and uncertain still, it is heartening to think we might be competitively positioning ourselves for a turnaround that will come, even if it sometimes does not seem so.
The editorial goes on to cite progress with the restoration of the historic Depot building, advancing development plans for the old Reid Hospital site, and the promise of jobs and tax dollars represented by Carbon Motors. They also remind us that progress can be slow sometimes, and we have to celebrate small successes along the way:
Yes, there are reasons to be optimistic about these developments. But a region that has suffered some of the highest of high unemployment needs to be diligent and respectful of the hard work and discipline it takes to achieve even minor successes against the backdrop of these hard times.
