Today’s Palladium-Item notes that the expanded Cardinal Greenway, the state of Indiana’s longest paved trail, is attracting tourists and cyclists to Wayne County:

Cardinal Greenway already is the state’s longest paved trail, and in coming weeks it will become even longer, stretching 51 miles from Gaston to Richmond.

The trail has been 12 years in the making; paving began in 1998.

“Without question, the longer a trail becomes the more important that trail is as a tourist draw,” said Ron Carter, director of The Greenways Foundation in Indianapolis. “It will enhance the Cardinal Greenway as an economic generator for east-central Indiana.”
