As reported in today's Palladium-Item, the Cardinal Greenway has received a $900,000 grant from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources:

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources will distribute the money to 28 projects, resulting in 104 miles of new trails and land being bought for an anticipated 26 miles of future trail development. Currently the state trail system covers about 400 miles.

Two local projects get a big boost through the state money. The Cardinal Greenway in northwest Wayne County receives $900,000 and Whitewater Canal Trails near Metamora $300,000.

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has awarded more than $20 million in Transportation Enhancement (TE) funds statewide for projects such as multi-use trails, streetscape improvements and historic bridge rehabilitations. That figure includes project money for a portion of the Cardinal Greenway in Wayne County.

The project also includes signage, a trailhead and bicycle racks. The new portion of the trail will connect to the rest of the 70-mile Cardinal Greenway Trail that stretches through five Indiana counties.

Multi-use trails are gaining popularity in many Indiana communities, and the state’s 10-year goal is to have a trail within 15 minutes of every Hoosier.  continue reading »

At 10 AM this morning, the Cycling and Fitness Warehouse will open its doors for business in Richmond. This large, just renovated facility is ideally located near Richmond Ave trailhead of the Cardinal Greenway. Cyclists who have been meeting every Tuesday and Thursday to ride from K-Mart at 5:30, will now depart from this more central location, starting tonight.  continue reading »
