On April 24, 2008, Richmond will be celebrating its designation as an Indiana CLEAN Community. The Indiana Comprehensive Local Environmental Action Network (CLEAN) Community Challenge is a voluntary recognition program for local Indiana government. CLEAN helps communities take steps to plan, develop, and implement a quality of life plan. This plan includes gathering input and support from the community and local businesses.
The City of Richmond, working through the Richmond Wayne County Environmental Awareness Council, has developed a Quality of Life Plan (QLP). It is similar in concept to an environmental management program (ISO: 14000) used by many businesses. CLEAN actions are in keeping with the sustainability commitments of the Strategic Plan.

Celebration of Roseview Transit Bike Racks

New bike-carrying racks have arrived for Rose Transit buses and they have been installed!
There will be a public celebration at the City Building (South entrance) on Monday, April 14th at 10am. Take an early lunch and ride on over to show your support for this great development in alternative transportation for Richmond.
WCTV’s 20th Anniversary Celebration

WCTV’s 20th Anniversary celebration will be held Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the WCTV studio in Hayes Hall on the IU East campus. We will have a brief business meeting, then share recognitions and awards before offering a facilities tour. Refreshments will be served. Also, on Sunday April 6 Channel 20 will be offering a slate of special programming to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Richmond explosion. 2008 Family Earth Day Celebration

Changapalooza

From WayNet.org: Changapalooza is a carnival for change and to celebrate diversity, held at Glen Miller Park from 12 to 4 PM. The event is hosted by Mrs. Hogg's 9th grade Richmond High School English class as a service learning project. 2007 Earth Day Celebration

Come celebrate Earth Day Saturday 4/28, 10 AM - 2 PM. This year we will be utilizing the recently renovated Starr-Gennett Building locate in the Whitewater River Gorge off of South 1st Street. There will be a native tree give away, green building products, activities for all ages, healthy food and more. You won't want to miss Mark Booth of Take Flight! Wildlife Education with his magnificent birds or Silly Safaris Live animal show featuring Safari Steve. Join the festivities and learn how YOU can make a difference in our community! Native American New Year Sobriety Powwow

The Pal-Item is reporting on the Native American New Year Sobriety Powwow at the Townsend Community Center. The powwow is a three-day event that started Saturday and resumes at 10 a.m. today as they will ring in the New Year on Monday. Pat Thompson, who was one of the event organizers, defined a powwow as a gathering of Native Americans who let the rest of the world see the different aspects of their culture.
