Tom Benevento is leading an effort to create a sustainable living homestead in the heart of Harrisonburg, Virginia.
This initiative seeks to integrate agroforestry, fish farming, solar applications, an organic garden, transitional housing for the homeless, and other sustainable living features into a community urban homestead.
Join us every Thursday for Peace Forum from noon-1pm in the Earlham School of Religion Dining Room. Free, delicious lunch always provided.
Richmond CLEAN Community Goals

On April 24, 2008, Richmond will be celebrating its designation as an Indiana CLEAN Community. The Indiana Comprehensive Local Environmental Action Network (CLEAN) Community Challenge is a voluntary recognition program for local Indiana government. CLEAN helps communities take steps to plan, develop, and implement a quality of life plan. This plan includes gathering input and support from the community and local businesses.
The City of Richmond, working through the Richmond Wayne County Environmental Awareness Council, has developed a Quality of Life Plan (QLP). It is similar in concept to an environmental management program (ISO: 14000) used by many businesses. CLEAN actions are in keeping with the sustainability commitments of the Strategic Plan.

Comprehensive Plan Open House

On Thursday, May 15 2008 from 6 to 8 PM, the City of Richmond will host an open house for learning more about the status of the Comprehensive Plan process. From 6 to 7 PM, visitors will be able to browse booths set up by each subcommittee of the comprehensive plan implementation committee, to learn about what's been done and what's still left to do. From 7 PM onward, visitors will have a chance to talk to and ask questions of the leadership involved in the plan implementation.
The event will be held on the 3rd floor of the Richmond City Building, in the lobby outside of Council chambers. For more information, contact the City of Richmond.
City of Richmond awarded grant for recycling bins

According to the press release, "The National Recycling Coalition (NRC) and Coca-Cola are helping 76 organizations fulfill their New Year's resolutions to recycle more and waste less. This January, the NRC has been busy contacting the recipients of the 2007 Bin Grant program to offer its recycling expertise and arrange for the shipment of 2,500 recycle bins." continue reading »
