On Global Warming and Life in Richmond

posted under

In her post entitled Warming Trend, local blogger Jean Harper writes down some observations about global warming trends, and what that means for her life here in Richmond.

While I know it is time to make significant changes, I will admit to the frustration of living in a community where it is damn difficult to find organic food, locally grown pesticide free produce, free-range anything. How ironic. Here we are in the so-called “heartland” and what we have is a preponderance of pre-packaged goods from California, Mexico, Florida. The Richmond Wayne County Environmental Awareness Council and the Cope Environmental Center are bringing Dr. John Vann from Ball State University to the area on January 19 to give a series of presentations focused around the documentary “An Inconvenient Truth.” Dr. Vann was trained by Al Gore, climate-change scientists and educators on Al Gore’s farm in Tennessee in September as part of an outreach initiative. The initiative is to get as many people in the nation (and around the world) to learn more about climate change. The presentation will give many facts and statistics about climate change and what may happen if it continues at the current rate. It is not all gloom and doom. The message is that we can do something about it! Come learn about how you can make a difference.  continue reading »

'Inconvenient Truth' playing in Richmond

As of today, it looks like Al Gore's climate crisis movie "An Inconvenient Truth" is playing at the Kerasotes 10 movie theatre in Richmond. We believe that the film was not ever shown on the "first run" screens at Kerasotes 11, and so many who wanted to see it when it came out needed to travel to surrounding cities. If you haven't had a chance to see the film yet, now you can without going too far.
