General election day is coming up soon, and the deadline to register to vote is October 10th. If you haven't already, consider filling out a voter registration form [PDF], reading an Indiana Voter Guide [PDF], making sure you know who your legislator is, attending one of the upcoming local candidate debates, and finding your polling place. continue reading »
General Election Day

In this general election we'll be voting on a variety of offices:
- U.S. Senate - one seat
- Secretary of State, Auditor of State, and Treasurer of State
- U.S. House of Representatives - all 9 seats
- Indiana State Senate - 25 of the 50 seats
- Indiana House of Representatives - all 100 seats
- other statewide elections

County Legislative Debate

The Legislative Committee of the Richmond-Wayne County Chamber of Commerce has organized the fall legislative debates. They will be held at IU East, Whitewater Hall, Vivian Auditorium. Candidates will be given the opportunity to present an opening statement and then answer questions presented by the moderator.

Citizens petition City Council for leadership on sewer matter

The Palladium-Item has a story out today about what sounds like a very lively Richmond Common Council meeting last night related to the proposed $6 fee to help handle problems with stormwater and sewer flooding in the City.
One of the most impassioned was Doug Bennett, Earlham College president, who lives on College Avenue. Bennett said he and his family have lived for nine years with "human fecal matter" backing up into his house. "Nine years this has gone on without somebody saying, 'My God, we've got a crisis on our hands.' I want to hear from the city council. I want your leadership. I want to hear that you are championing resolving this matter." continue reading »
