EC Psych Dept Resolution Led Way for APA Policy Change

posted under

After a year of helping lead the charge for a change in the American Psychological Association's (APA) stance on allowing members to participate in certain interrogations, the Earlham College Psychology Department and convener Michael R. Jackson can claim victory. This week APA announced that its membership has voted in favor of a petition resolution to specifically bar members from working where "persons are held outside of, or in violation of, either International Law or the U.S. Constitution."

Last year, the psychology department at Earlham passed a resolution calling for a change in the interrogations policy of APA. According to a report in today's Palladium-Item, Earlham College is serving as a leader when it comes to sustainability in higher education:

The National Wildlife Federation says Earlham, along with 12 other Indiana colleges, are leaders in environmentally friendly activity, according to a national report card on sustainability in higher education.

Earlham was one of 240 schools nationwide recognized as being exemplary in the areas of sustainability. That included, but was not limited to its waste reduction plan, says Julian Keniry, NWF's senior director of campus and community leadership.
