Wayne County U

John Dalton, station director at WCTV, has this exciting announcement:

In celebration of our 20th Anniversary, the staff of WCTV has created special programs throughout the year to celebrate two decades of local programming by and for the citizens of Wayne County. We are using this milestone as a way to remind our viewers what public access television can mean to a community.

One program our staff developed was Wayne County U, a new show designed to support the educational discourse going on in our community at present by allowing content experts airtime to share important educational information. Our initial programs focused on completing the FAFSA and getting involved in the 21st Century Scholars program. This month we are showcasing “Math Fireworks” with Christie Joy, Workforce Development Facilitator for Adult Education; and “Workplace Safety Orientation” with Lisa Dollar of Personnel Management, Inc. We are committed to producing twenty episodes of Wayne County U from August 2008 to May 2009.  continue reading »

EC Psych Dept Resolution Led Way for APA Policy Change

posted under

After a year of helping lead the charge for a change in the American Psychological Association's (APA) stance on allowing members to participate in certain interrogations, the Earlham College Psychology Department and convener Michael R. Jackson can claim victory. This week APA announced that its membership has voted in favor of a petition resolution to specifically bar members from working where "persons are held outside of, or in violation of, either International Law or the U.S. Constitution."

Last year, the psychology department at Earlham passed a resolution calling for a change in the interrogations policy of APA. Breaking new ground by taking this national leadership role, Earlham's Resolution Regarding Participation by Psychologists in Interrogations in Military Detention Centers was the first of its kind issued by an American college or university academic unit. Nearly a dozen additional colleges have since signed onto the Earlham resolution.  continue reading »
