Poetry Festival

On April 19th, the 5th Street Coffee and Bagel Shop will sponsor a poetry festival from noon – 3 p.m. at the Innovation Center in downtown. They will read and write poems, including those that are from the distributed notebooks. They will also have a booth for spontaneous writing. The event is a part of the Richmond Community Poetry Effort.

From Newslink Indiana: An Earlham college professor and his students are urging people in Richmond to participate in an effort to bring back poetry to the community.

English professor David Ebenbach started the Richmond Community Poetry Effort, which is funded by a grant from the college. The effort distributed composition notebooks to different establishments. They hope that people who see the notebooks will write in them.

“Its not that people are petrified and it’s not that poetry is a bad four-letter word. It’s just that people aren’t given the resources or the opportunity to share poems,” said Earlham senior Gabriel Kalmuss-Katz.  continue reading »

2007 Earth Day Celebration

Phantoscope High School Film Festival

The Richmond Art Museum presents the First Annual Phantoscope High School Film Festival. Young filmmakers from East Central Indiana and West Central Ohio will screen their films. One talented filmmaker will win the $500 cash prize.

Call for entries: Phantoscope* is a film festival especially for high schoolers in East Central Indiana and West Central Ohio. Students in Blackford, Delaware, Henry, Jay, Randolph, and Wayne Counties in Indiana, and Preble and Darke Counties in Ohio are eligible to enter their short films in the competition. The deadline for entries is February 1, 2007. A juried selection of films will have a public screening at the Richmond Art Museum on Saturday, March 24, 2007. Uptown Ice Fest

One of the Largest Holiday Events in Richmond Wayne County Kicks Off Friday Night in Uptown Richmond.

Main Street Richmond Wayne County announces Uptown Richmond’s 1st annual Ice Fest on December 8th and 9th as a part of their holiday program “Signs of Season” a month long celebration in Uptown Richmond.

On display along Main Street from 5th to 10th Street there will be twenty lighted ice sculptures; some of the most original, celebrated holiday “signs” ever sculpted in ice, guaranteed to become a must-experience holiday tradition for families of East Central Indiana.

National Ice Designer, Stephan Koch, from Indiana Ice Studio will be on hand on Friday night at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. and on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. for a live ice carving demonstration along Main Street in Uptown Richmond.  continue reading »
