Renaissance House: Building Community

posted under

Renaissance House is a Quaker House of Prayer and Hospitality in one of the poorest neighborhoods of Richmond, Indiana. It was created to provide a safe place for people who live on the fringe of society, to come and share a mid-week common meal and worship together. They have a unique worship group comprised of people who live in the community and people from other neighborhoods, who gather together to share good food and conversation, followed by a lively hymn sing and time of intercessory prayer. Their pitch-in meal begins at 6:00pm, and ecumenical worship is from 7:00pm until approximately 8:15pm. Everyone is welcome at their table and worship time. Their worship group is under the care of West Richmond Friends Meeting but they have a wide spectrum of denominations represented and they encourage each other in our own faith journeys.

College to reward energy efficient student living

posted under

As announced in a recent all-student meeting on the campus of Earlham College, the college is starting an energy awareness project that will provide financial incentives to students living in campus houses in an energy-efficient way. According to the Earlham Word article:

Under the project, house residents whose energy consumption is below average will receive monetary refunds that can be applied to their student accounts or to the house budget. Each house's energy use statistics will be posted on a website...

The project has a website established, but it appears to be still under construction.
