Everything Is Illuminated (2005, Rated PG-13, Directed by Liev Schreiber)

Adapted from the popular novel, Elijah Wood stars as a young writer who travels to Europe in search of his grandfather’s past. With only a photograph and the name of a village to go on, he hires Odessa Heritage Tours, made up of a gruff old man and his grandson who speaks English (or something like it). Accompanied by the old man’s deranged dog, they travel from Odessa into the heart of the Ukraine to unravel a family secret.

Richmond Art Museum presents "Taste of Cherry" (1998, Directed by Abbas Kiarostami).

Winner of the Palme d’Or prize at the Cannes Film Festival the year it was released, Taste of Cherry follows middle-aged Mr. Badii through the streets of Tehran as he seeks someone to assist him with his plan to end his own life. The people he encounters challenge his thinking in a variety of ways, but will they actually change his mind? This Iranian film was made by a man many consider to be one of the greatest living filmmakers.
