Are you confused about what's happening in Iraq? Are you tired of reading body counts? Do you really understand the difference between Sunni and Shia? Do you feel overwhelmed by the threat of war with Iran? Do you want to know how to respond to this incredible sorrow?
Cliff Kindy has spent much of the past five years in Iraq with Christian Peacemaker Teams and will share stories and respond to your questions on Thursday evening, May 22 at 7pm. Cliff Kindy, from Christian Peacemaker Teams, will share about his experience in Iraq. Cliff has spent much of the past five years working in Iraq with CPT, and will talk particularly about his work with Muslim Peacemaker Teams.

Adrien Niyongabo: Trauma Healing in Rwanda, Burundi and the D.R. Congo

African Great Lakes Initiative doer and shaker, Adrien Niyongabo is co-creator of the Healing and Rebuilding Our Communities (HROC) program (a trauma healing approach in Rwanda, Burundi and the D.R.C.). Adrien heads programming in Burundi and has been a part of the Alternatives to Violence committee in Burundi.

David Johns: Teaching Theology in Latin America

David is a Associate Professor of Theology at Earlham School of Religion. Drawing on several trips to Honduras, Mexico, and Guatemala, he will be discussing experiences with Quakers and the challenges of teaching theology in Latin America.

The Earlham School of Religion is hosting its annual Spirituality Gathering on Saturday, March 1st on the Richmond campus. Seeking Simplicity: Listening to the Spirit will feature keynote speaker Catherine Whitmire, author of Plain Living: A Quaker Path to Simplicity. Making Sense Of It All: The Opportunity In Challenging Behavior

While many in the city rue RCS's low graduation rate (now up to 60%!), Rae Jean Clinton and the Conflict Resolution Center are giving youth real skills for success. Rae Jean works with Wayne Country's expelled and suspended students through the Positive Alternatives program. She connects with young people, teaching self-esteem, communication and non-violence.

Dawn Ottoni Wilhelm is a professor of preaching and worship at Bethany Seminary. She will discuss scripture as a living resource, drawing on her latest book Preaching the Gospel of Mark: Proclaiming the Power of God, which will be released this fall.

Convocation: “Peace Corps and the 21st Century: How Expanding Peace Corps can Help Restore U.S. Standing in the World” Presenter: Kevin Quigley Ph.D., President/CEO National Peace Corps Association Discontent with the United States and its foreign policies has intensified during the last five years. These negative perceptions impede efforts to address important global challenges. The next President will have to address this. Quigley, argues that a significant expansion of Peace Corps should be part of this response.

Presenter: John Paul Lederach Presenter: Dr. John Paul Lederach, Professor of International Peacebuilding, University of Notre Dame, Distinguished Scholar and founding director of Conflict Transformation Program, Eastern Mennonite University Lederach has done extensive work in conflict transformation around the globe and has written widely on conflict resolution and mediation. Sponsored by Carter Peace Lecture Fund, bringing noted scholars and speakers to speak on issues of peace and non-violent action.
