You are invited to participate in a retreat with Steve Banker on the question, "What is a Progressive Christian Quaker?" Friday and Saturday March 28-29 2008 at the Quaker Hill Conference Center, 10 Quaker Hill Drive, Richmond, Indiana.
Steve says "I invite you to join me to consider an approach to faith that is clearly Christ-centered and, as such, flavored with the same progressive spirit of truth and life that Jesus introduced originally. With the supporting distinctives of progressive and Quaker faith, let us explore the dynamic nature of our Christian faith and practice today." Renaissance House: Building Community
Submitted by anna lisa gross on February 9, 2008 - 11:20pm.posted under
Renaissance House is a Quaker House of Prayer and Hospitality in one of the poorest neighborhoods of Richmond, Indiana. It was created to provide a safe place for people who live on the fringe of society, to come and share a mid-week common meal and worship together. They have a unique worship group comprised of people who live in the community and people from other neighborhoods, who gather together to share good food and conversation, followed by a lively hymn sing and time of intercessory prayer. Their pitch-in meal begins at 6:00pm, and ecumenical worship is from 7:00pm until approximately 8:15pm. Everyone is welcome at their table and worship time. Their worship group is under the care of West Richmond Friends Meeting but they have a wide spectrum of denominations represented and they encourage each other in our own faith journeys.

On today's Weekend Edition Sunday, host (and Earlham graduate) Andrea Seabrook interviewed Richmond resident Paul Lacey about what "peace on earth" might really look like, the meanings of the word peace, and his hopefulness about achieving real peace in the world. Lacey is the Board Chair of the American Friends Service Committee and is Professor Emeritus at Earlham College. Beyond the interesting content of the interview itself, Seabrook and Lacey are recognized by Earlham as outstanding contributors to and representatives of the College.
