Tour of Dutch Acres Organic Dairy Farm

Take a tour of an organic dairy farm right here in Wayne County! This is the opportunity to become acquainted with a local organic farmer and understand the value of organic farming and the impact it has on you as a consumer. Learn what it really means to be an organic farm from raising and feeding and milking the cows to transporting and packaging the milk as an organic product. You will hear about the certification requirements and what it takes to earn and retain organic certification. The dairy is a member of the Organic Valley cooperative. The milk produced on this farm is purchased by Organic Valley and processed locally at Smith Dairy.  continue reading »

City of Richmond awarded grant for recycling bins

According to the press release, "The National Recycling Coalition (NRC) and Coca-Cola are helping 76 organizations fulfill their New Year's resolutions to recycle more and waste less. This January, the NRC has been busy contacting the recipients of the 2007 Bin Grant program to offer its recycling expertise and arrange for the shipment of 2,500 recycle bins."  continue reading »

Richmond adopts Mayors Climate Protection Agreement

Richmond, IN – Mayor Sally Hutton will sign the U. S. Conference of Mayor’s Climate Protection Agreement on Tuesday, August 28, 2007, at 5:00 P.M., at the Richmond/Wayne County Environmental Awareness Council meeting. The public is invited to attend the signing in the Community Room, 2nd Floor of the City Municipal Building, 50 North 5th Street, Richmond.

The U.S. Conference of Mayor’s Climate Protection Agreement encourages the federal government to enact policies and programs to meet or exceed guidelines set by the Kyoto Protocol. Over 640 Mayors from across the country have signed the U.S. Mayor’s Conference Climate Protection Agreement.  continue reading »
