We've already mentioned the Hoagy Carmichael mural that's gone up in downtown Richmond. On Saturday, there will be an exhibit that shows the progression of the mural, Pamela Bliss, and photographs of Hoagy Carmichael from the collection of Duncan Scheidt. After the reception for Pamela we will walk across the street where Randy Carmichael will officially unveil the mural.
There will be a break for lunch (Tom's Deli, Readmore, Angel's Secret Garden Cafe, and the Leland are all within a block of the mural).
At 2pm Randy Carmichael will perform informally at the Leland. continue reading »

Main Street Richmond-Wayne County, Inc. is proud to announce the 13th Annual UPTOWN Picnic. This year's picnic will be held on Tuesday , July 1, 2008 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., in the 800 block of East Main Street. Poetry Festival

On April 19th, the 5th Street Coffee and Bagel Shop will sponsor a poetry festival from noon – 3 p.m. at the Innovation Center in downtown. They will read and write poems, including those that are from the distributed notebooks. They will also have a booth for spontaneous writing. The event is a part of the Richmond Community Poetry Effort.
First Tuesday

First Tuesday is a monthly event aimed at showcasing uptown shops, services and restaurants. Business hours will be extended on each “First Tuesday” thru 7 p.m. for all participating uptown businesses.
There are a variety of opportunities from which everyone can take part. For instance, dining in one of our Uptown restaurants alone will bring you back each week. We also have the most incredible desserts around, and they can be found at several locations along Main Street. continue reading »
Uptown Ice Fest

One of the Largest Holiday Events in Richmond Wayne County Kicks Off Friday Night in Uptown Richmond.
Main Street Richmond Wayne County announces Uptown Richmond’s 1st annual Ice Fest on December 8th and 9th as a part of their holiday program “Signs of Season” a month long celebration in Uptown Richmond.
On display along Main Street from 5th to 10th Street there will be twenty lighted ice sculptures; some of the most original, celebrated holiday “signs” ever sculpted in ice, guaranteed to become a must-experience holiday tradition for families of East Central Indiana.
National Ice Designer, Stephan Koch, from Indiana Ice Studio will be on hand on Friday night at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. and on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. for a live ice carving demonstration along Main Street in Uptown Richmond. continue reading »
Annual Uptown Holiday Parade

Lights, lights & more lights! Main Street Richmond-Wayne County is excited to announce that the 17th Annual Uptown Holiday Parade will be an evening parade. The parade is free to spectators and participants. Santa Claus, the Richmond High School Red Devil Marching Band, floats, walking entries and classic cars are among the many entries that will be in this year’s parade. UEA granting up to $500 for storefront improvements

Richmond Urban Enterprise Zone will provide a grant up to $500 of the cost of a new sign, awning, lighting or paint for commercial properties located in the Historic Depot District and Uptown Richmond. Grants will only be awarded to projects for improving the front facade of buildings. Grants will be awarded to projects that are approved in writing by the UEA prior to installation.
