WAYNE AND UNION COUNTIES SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT DISTRICT COLLECTION DAY

The Wayne and Union Counties Solid Waste Management District (WUR SWMD) is holding a Collection Day for their county residents on Saturday, June 7, 2008. The collection will take place from 9AM to 1PM at the old NATCO building parking lot on National Road West in Richmond, Indiana.

The only items to be collected at this one-day event are:
Washers, Dryers, Stoves, Refrigerators, Freezers, Air conditioners, Dehumidifiers, & Fluorescent light bulbs (whole and unbroken)  continue reading »

How adults can help girls be who they are, not what they're sold

Girls Inc. of Wayne County sponsors a free public talk as part of its "Got Girls? Giving Back" series. Mother, author and educator Lyn Mikel Brown titled "How adults can help girls be who they are, not what they are sold." The talk is open to the public, and recommended for parents, teachers, mentors, older girls (middle school & up) and adults working with girls.

This free event is held on Weds. April 9 at 7pm in the Loose Lecture Hall of the Landrum Bolling Center on Earlham College in Richmond, IN. A reception with book signing follows.  continue reading »

Earlham Forums are a year-long series of community-oriented presentations and discussions about issues important to the Richmond-Wayne County community locally, nationally and internationally. In this forum, Jim Dinkle, President/CEO of the Economic Development Corporation of Wayne County, will present on "What's Developing in Wayne County?" at 8 AM in the Landrum Bolling Center on the campus of Earlham College. Countywide Education Meeting

The Wayne County Learning Corporation needs you! Please attend a special meeting regarding learning issues in our community. The WCLC is an organization made up of citizens from around the county with one mission: to keep lifelong learning and education at the top of everyone's agenda.

At the meeting you will hear where the county currently stands, what is being done to improve and expand learning opportunities and most importantly, how we can move forward together.

The meeting is at Fountain City Wesleyan Church at 5600 US-27 North in Richmond on May 22, 2007 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM.

Taxpayers petition County to make Council meetings more accessible

On Friday, the Pal-Item reported that 49 Wayne Co. voters sign form seeking change from county council's morning meetings:

Monica Burns, Richmond's deputy city clerk and a 2006 Democratic county council candidate, presented council with 149 signatures from registered Wayne County voters supporting moving the monthly meetings from 8 a.m. to sometime in the evening.

"At least it gives them (the public) the opportunity to attend, if they so choose," Burns said.  continue reading »
